About

What is classics? Why should people study it? The aim of this site is to find answers to those two questions. I want to explore the benefits and drawbacks of a "classically trained" point of view. The name of the site comes from the phrase I used to hear music students use when describing their teachers--it was distinctive, inherently better to have an instructor who was classically trained. I want to find out why those words, classics and classical, carry the stuffy connotations they do, and if being classically trained in any subject is inherently better than not.

I am a classics major at The University of Texas. My main academic interest is the Latin language, although I am also studying Greek and classical civilization. Please feel free to provide comments on the articles, and if you have any other thoughts or questions, you can email me at ClassicallyTrainedFrank@gmail.com. Thanks for visiting.
